MINUTES

  1. Meeting called to order at 2:20 p.m.
  2. Approval of October 27, 1999

  5. We received a District 5-6 playoff payment of $10,000 for football
  6. Discussion of Windber Hospital discontinuing of Paramedic Unit 392 was tabled.
  7. Correspondence:

  8. Permission to possibly rent a timing device from District 3 for the district track meet at $300.  They will train Greg Hayes to operate device.
  9. Enrollment classifications for 2000 to 2002 school years passed out by chairman.
  10. Discussion of Junior High School/Middle School contest rules and standards.  We will follow the National Federation Rule Books.  The district committee will set and police the rules with the leagues on times and number of contests.
  11. The PIAA is facing a $1.5 million lawsuit on the Kemether Case, a discrimination case concerning a state female basketball official.  We will probably be asked to help pay the costs.
  12. The PIAA is asking all committees to help oppose House Bill 2015 by contacting our Representative.  The bill is being entered by Rep. Grata.  He is angry because a football player from his area was ejected from a game and he wanted him reinstated.  He wants the PIAA placed under control of the Department of Education.
  13. The following tournaments were approved:
    1. Boswell Area Jaycees Varsity Basketball
    2. Mt. CAT UPJ Varsity Basketball
    3. Windber Rotary Varsity Basketball
    4. Panther parents Jr. High Basketball
    5. Conemaugh Township Holiday Booster Wrestling
  14. The committee approved the paying of $35 a day for meals and lodging costs to District 5 students who are asked to sing at PIAA state events.  We have had some outstanding performances by our students  in the singing of the National Anthem at PIAA state championships.
  15. District basketball and wrestling reports were presented.
  16. Chairman update - December 9/10, 2000 meeting.
    1. Proposed baseball, softball bat rules
    2. Mandatory Rules Meeting - Head Coaches must attend
    3. $100 fine
    4. Can use blocking dummies and shields, helmets, and shoes  in summer football drills.  No sleds and no shoulder pads may be used.
